Tomáš Petrů, Ph.D. (1974) is Research Fellow at the Oriental Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences. He is also Assistant Professor of Indonesian Studies at Charles University in Prague. In his research, Dr. Petrů has been focusing on the interaction of politics, ethnicity and religion in Indonesia and the Malay world. He has authored two dozen articles and chapters on Indonesian, Malaysian and wider Southeast Asian history and politics (Asian Ethnicity, Moussons, Austrian Journal of South-East Asian Studies etc.). His recent publications include the edited volume entitled Graffiti, Converts and Vigilantes: Islam Outside the Mainstream in Maritime Southeast Asia (Prague: Oriental Institute, 2018).
