Julian Barnes is one of the most renowned writers of contemporary literature. In this seminar we will study his novels A History of The World in 10 ½ Chapters (1989) (selections), Flaubert's Parrot (1984), England, England (1998) and The Sense of an Ending (2011); we will also analyse Nothing To Be Frightened Of (2008) and Levels of Life (2013) and some selected short stories. Since Barnes is looked upon as a representative of 'moderate English postmodernism', participants of this seminar should be interested contemporary literary theory.
